Dear teachers,
Would you be kind enough to give me your considered opinion concerning the interpretation of the expressions in bold in the following sentences?
“Come, come, please be comfortable,” I tried unsuccessfully to push myself to the side of the bus and then held the umbrella over her head in such a manner that most of the leaking holes were on my side and she was comparatively safe from the dripping.
“How can I ever thank you?” she said in a genuinely grateful tone. “If you hadn’t come to the rescue I would have been soaked to the bone.”
to come to the rescue = to come to the assistance
soaked to the bone = drenched
V.
