    Default renominate/ mend one’s fences/ look after one’s fences

    Dear teachers,

    Would you be kind enough to give me your considered opinion concerning the interpretation of the expressions in bold in the following sentences?

    Roosevelt was forced to acknowledge failure of his diplomacy and to set about mending fences. (G. Marion, “Bases and Empire”

    They are at home seeking renomination or looking after their fences.

    renominate = to nominate again, especially for a subsequent term

    mend one’s fences = look after one’s fences = fence-mending = stabilize one’s political positions
