    Default get the foot of somebody

    Dear teachers,

    Would you be kind enough to give me your considered opinion concerning the interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentence?

    She got the foot of them so far that she found she could get back to her nest.

    get the foot of somebody = get ahead of somebody
