Default Lord of the Flies Chapter 1~3

I have a question about the first 3 chapters of the Lord of the Flies by William Goldings. I was trying to connect the concepts of these chapters to a real event or to anything in real life. After some consideration, I thought that maybe the first 3 chapters in this novel may connect to the birth of a democratic nation. This is because the boys left on the island chooses Ralph as the new leader and they use the conch as a representation of power and authority. Furthermore, everyone is able to hold the conch and express their opinions, which shows concrete evidence toward my opinion here. However, i am still not very sure so I wanted help and ask if this opinion has enough evidence to prove true.
    Thank you

That's an interesting thought but I believe that the conch has more to do with civilization than with the formation of a democracy. The conch is used by the boys when they want to speak - a social contract has been established and observed. The destruction of the conch seems to represent the loss of civilization.

This novel was written after the end of a major world war. The author seems to be saying that he had seen the loss of civilization during this conflict.
