    Default shoot one's five-pointer

    Hi,

Could anyone help me out? What does the underlined part mean?

"Sam is a rookie cop who'd just shot his first five-pointer."

    Thanks for your help.

Deer hunters refer to their kills by the number of points on the antlers. A 5 pointer could refer to a deer with 5 tips on his antlers.

What that has to do with being a cop or a rookie cop, I don't know. This may refer to something else. Is there more context?

Unfortunately, there is no more context. But still thank you for your kind help.

It could mean that they have some sort of unofficial scale for criminals they shoot- five, say, for a drug dealer, ten for a big gangster. (I am guessing)
