    Default standoffish

Please tell me if the following is a grammatically correct useage of the word "standoffish":

If your classmates think you standoffish, you will seldom be included in their after school plans.

I have an excerpt from a story, title unknown. It reads as follows:

"Betty Marie knew that corps de ballet dancers, the dancers who performed as a group but had no solo parts, thought her standoffish."

    Please help explain.

It's fine to me. Someone who is standoffish doesn't mix much with other people, and is seen as rather haughty.
