    Dear teachers,

    Would you be kind enough to give me your considered opinion concerning the interpretation of the expressions in bold in the following sentences?

    One evening little Hans was sitting by his fireside when a loud rap came at the door. (O. Wild)

    And then laid him by the fireside with some honey and some milk ..

    You can knit a sweater by the fireside.

    fireside = area beside the fireplace
