Some people sleep the way to the top, but usually white women and only so far. The notion that you can sleep your way to the top is essentially myth. That is a very badly written paragraph from start to finish. I don't know where you found it but it wasn't written by a native English speaker. Even the quote you queried has been used badly. It should, in this context, say "Some people sleep their way to the top..."
