    Exclamation Proficiency

    Hello everyone,
Would you please tell me what does ( Proficiency )refers to in learning a language?
e.g=when someone tells you that you have to develop your proficiency as a university student of english ,does he mean you have to develop your ( Vocabulary ) or ( Grammer )?Or both?

    Thanks in advance,

I think that comprehension should be included. Once upon a time I studied German in college...could pronounce the words, and was ok with grammar. This meant that I could read the language but understanding passages, novels, or technical material required another level of understanding.

I would include fluency as well as vocabulary, grammar and comprehension. It's one thing to be able to read and understand, another to be able to write and speak. In order to be considered proficient in a language, one must be able to communicate easily. Proficiency implies an expert skill level, an adeptness at handling oneself in the given area. So, if one is proficient in a language, one can converse easily, as well as read and write. I hope this helps.

I wish you the best in your English studies!

    Smiles!
