    Hi,

    Sumer was a civilization and historical region in southern Mesopotamia, modern Iraq during the Chalcolithic and Early Bronze Age.

    What does the bold part mean?

    There should be another comma after modern Iraq.

    This is a parenthetical phrase identifying the location of Mesopotamia.
