    Default House IN/ON the market

Will appreciate you help in making out which is the right preposition in the phrase. What I mean is that the house is situated where the market is held. So, which is correct:

    The house in the market

    It may be better (?)
    The house in the marketplace

    The house on the market?

    Thanks a lot

I would say "The house is in the marketplace". If you say that the house is on the market, it suggests that the house is for sale. (BrE)

You know, this is what the Oxford Dictionary gave out, but when I googled in/on the market, there was 'on the market' variant nearly everywhere. Thanks a lot for clearing the thing up.
