Would you be kind enough to give me your considered opinion concerning the interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentences?
“O, man, let’s say no more about it!” said I.
“We’re neither one of us to mend the other – that’s the truth! We must just bear and forbear, man Alan!” (R. I. Stevenson, “Kidnapped”)
bear and forbear = have patience and endurance with
Please bear with me for a few minutes.
bear with = have patience
She can't bear to watch them suffer.
I can not bear his behaving in this manner.
bear = stand, tolerate
