Default Are these sentences natural? August 19

    Hi,

Are the following sentences natural to a native ear?

    1. I will have check on it.

    2. I didn’t know they still did/do that. (A person graduated from my school in 1970 said something like that to a person graduated in 1990. They were talking about an annual function.)

    3. What is your definition of (a) geek?

    Thanks,
    MG.

No - but I also don't know what you mean. Perhaps "I will check on it" meaning "I will go and examine it and make sure everything is OK". Is that what you meant?

Both with and without "a" are fine.

    Thanks,
    MG.
    See above.

    1. I will have to check on it. OK w/"have to check", e.g. Q: What's the status of my reservation?

    2. I didn’t know they still did/do that. (A person graduated from my school in 1970 said something like that to a person graduated in 1990. They were talking about an annual function.) Either one is OK, but I prefer "do" especially with "still", as in "continue to do that".

    3. What is your definition of (a) geek? Either is OK but "a" isn't necessary.

    Thanks,
    MG.

I agree with emsr2d2, I'd use "did" as well.

I'd use 'did, but I have no objection to 'do'.
