Hello,

With a little over a week before the start of the new school year, I would like to clarify one point.
When freshman students come to the classroom for the first time, one of them is voted the monitor.
This is the term I used when I was a student myself.
So monitors are like the mission control centre in the group: they collect money for making photocopies, carry the group's register all day long and have it signed by a teacher at the end of each class, make important announcements to the group, know when exams are due and so on. Some of them even might call parents of their group-mates who do not attend classes and alert them to the fact.
At some universities monitors are rewarded for their voluntary work by exempting them from one of the five exams or by giving them automatically 10 points on an exam, at some they are not.
My feeling is that "monitor" is not the best word.
But what might it be?

"Class monitor" is a good enough term if you're used to it. I can't think of a better term.
