    Default testifying of two sentences

    Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to give me your considered opinion concerning the plausibility of the sentences below?

She managed to hold her emotions back when she was told of her husband’s death.

To my deep gratification, the English teachers were kind and considerate to me lately.

    ***** NOT A TEACHER *****

I get the feeling that your use of the adverb "lately" should throw the verb into the

    present perfect:

The English teachers have been very kind to and considerate of me lately.

    Hi TheParser,

Thank you for your amendment. You are perfectly right. That was a careless mistake.

At first, I have the intention using the adverb always which calls for usage of the mentioned wrong tense. Subsequently I chose lately because I have to take account to realities. The usage of always would be going too far.

    Thank you for your kindness.
