    Default adjunct x though/as

    Hi teachers,
    I want to ask which of the following is correct and why. Because I am confusing about this
    (1)Much as he loves her, he has no intention marrying her.
    (2)Much though he loves her, he has no intention of marrying her.
    I know a little about using though but i am confusing why my teacher needs us to be careful about this one.

    In these particular sentences, there is no significant difference between 'as' and 'though'. However, the two words are not normally interchangeable. You teacher does not want you to think they are, I assume.

    Incidentally, #1 is much more common than #2.
