Hi,
I have read in this site in the chapter which talk about irregular verbs that the present participle of 'abide' is 'abiding' but I thought that when we had the following pettern: consonnant + vowel + consonant we must doubling the consonant.
Am I wrong?

Other words which end with 'ide' :
ride - riding
chide - chiding
pride - priding
The consonant is doubled when there is no 'e' at the end:
rid - ridding
bid - bidding
bed - bedding
Rather than remembering the rules, I think it is easier to think of how other similar words are spelt.
