Question Why style of writing is this called?

Hi

What is is called when you jump back and forth from one person to the other, but in such a way as though you are hearing what both people are thinking?

For example:
If you were to write about say a girl and her boy friend and it sounded like this:

(Him) I know she wants to go to the party but I wonder why she has not said anything.
(Her), I wonder how long it’s going to take for him to ask me, I am getting very board?

So basically your reading what they are both thinking but the story is jumping from Him to Her. What is the technical term for this style of writing?

Advanced Thanks

Hello Starstreams

I would call it "alternating points of view", or "changes of perspective". You might also talk about "different voices".

Though there is no doubt a more technical term, somewhere.

Thumbs up Re: Why style of writing is this called?

Hmm, well both your terms sounded good to me:
Thanks to the both of you.

@mykwyner,
You said that it’s what you call it? It sounds good to me even if it’s not the real deal. This is the first time I’ve heard of the word omniscient. I like it!

I’ll take it!.

Third-person omniscient

You could also say that the story has an "omniscient narrator".
