| Here the writer is using currents, as in ocean currents, as a metaphor for events, trends or forces that cannot be controlled. It is a good metaphor, but can be replaced by more direct speech that refers to the thing worrying the speaker. A different, but similar metaphor such as tides or winds might not be as effective. |
