    Dear teachers,

    Would you be kind enough to give me your considered opinion concerning the interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentences?

    They thought it had been set on fire on purpose.

    On purpose shut the doors against his way. (Shakespeare, “Comedy of Errors”)

    on purpose = intentionally

    Yes, intentionally is correct.
