Would you be kind enough to give me your considered opinion concerning the paraphrasing of the following sentence?

The ghostly story made my hair stand on end.

The ghostly story made my hair curl.

What about: "The ghost story gave me goose bumps"?

Both of yours are fine although "made my hair curl" (to me) gives the idea of a much more frightening experience than one which simply makes your hair stand on end.

The ghost story made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
The ghost story gave me the willies.
The ghost story gave me the heebie-jeebies.
The ghost story gave me the creeps.
