"I'm new to this school." If I've been studying at a language school ,shall I say, for two years at the moment of speaking, could I say "I've been to this school for two years now."?

We have several new teachers at the English Center, I come to the conversation club at. During the "get to know" class each of them would step upfront and said "Hi! My name is bla bla bla. I'm new to this school.'' Why wouold they use the preposition "to" instead of "at"? "I'm new at this school."

Woudl it work, if meant " I've been going to this school for two years now." ?

Probably because they felt like it. Both 'to' and 'at' can be used here, with a slightly different meaning.
