    Default the functio of now

    Dear all,

    1. He has been getting away with it for a year .
    2. He has been getting away with it for a year now.

In the sentences above, is there any difference in nuance, depending on whether being accompanied by now or not?

    Thank you!

And I'd add that the 'now' is redundant if followed immediately by a full stop (period). It is often a good addition if it's followed by another clause: 'He's been getting away with it for a year now, and I have no reason to suppose...'.
