its interesting... where does the idea of "turning" originate from in this phrase? "turn on the TV" and "turn up the TV" comes from when televisions had turnable knobs for power and volume. but where does "turn up" (to appear) have its origin?
I am very appreciative of and interested in your problem. Its significance lies in the "origin " of phrasal verbs which I am looking for all my life. As a teacher of English we should think of how to help students remember such phrasal verbs which are great trouble to them ,including us.
