    Default killing/kill

    Dear teachers,

Below is a headline from the Forbes and my question is why uses "killing" not "killed"?

"Actor Steven Seagal Sued for Driving Tank into Arizona Home, Killing Puppy"

Please help me understand. Thank you.

    ***** NOT A TEACHER *****

Maybe the headline is short for something like:

Actor Steven Seagal [is] Sued for Driving [a] Tank into [an] Arizona Home,

[which resulted in the] Killing [of a ] Puppy.

It matches "driving". It's what he was sued for: "driving a tank into a home in Arizona and (in the process) killing a puppy".

It's the construction we use after "being sued for":

I am being sued for hurting a work colleague.
He is being sued for breaking the contract with the council.
They are being sued for taking photos of celebrities without their consent.

Headline writers are more concerned with filling or saving print space than they are with grammar. But here they used gerunds, "driving" and "killing".
