Default Numbers and abbreviations in the UK

Hello all,

I am struggling with a translation here involving real estate and listings. The target group would primarily consist of families in the UK.

I have 2 questions:

1. How are square metres abbreviated? Would you say "The room measures 4m² or 4 sq.m., 4 SQM"?

2. How are the thousands and hundreds separated, again in British figures? With commas or decimals? Eg.: Would "one hundred thousand pounds" read as "£100,000" or "£100.000"

I'd be grateful for any help I could get on this one.

Thanks,
Bill

Thanks. Someone else got back to me about the "square metres" part and also suggested 4m². I think these may be optional. Mind you he is Canadian and the system may be different there.

"4m²" is also correct but some typewriters(computers) can't type "²" ( my computer can't and I only copied and pasted it from your post.), so that's why "sq.m" is preferred.

Okay, great! Thanks for letting me know and ... just between you and me ... I copied and pasted it myself during this entire translation process. I couldn't figure out how to minimize the 2!

Hi,

I have Win XP on my PC and I was able to paste
the superscripted '2' below by doing this:

Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Character Map

- In the Character Map window, in "Group by"
I choose "Unicode Subrange" from the drop-down menu.

This pops up a window titled "Group by" and it lists
the unicode range.

- Choose 'Super/Subscript'
This changes the character map. I see '1 2 3'
in the map. I select '2' and click the 'select' button.

- Click on the 'copy' button.
I am now pasting that character here -> m²

- By selecting 'number forms' from the 'group by' window,
I am able to paste fractions thusly -> ⅔

Hope this helps.
