Here is my sentence: "Ignore the messages from those whom you're unfamiliar with when surfing the Net."
Does this look alright?
Do we get messages when we surf?
I get a lot of pop-ups. Is that what you mean by "messages"? Messages come by email to me.
How about:
"Ignore unfamiliar messages when using the Net."
***** NOT A TEACHER *****
(1) Susie has suggested an excellent sentence.
(2) And Teacher Bill has shown you where many people prefer to place the "with."
(3) As the other posters have said, your sentence is, indeed, all right. It shows that
you understand English grammar very well.
(4) May I, however, respectfully remind you that in conversation or in informal
writing, you might want to consider stating your idea something like this:
When surfing the Web, ignore messages from people you don't know.
(And if you are aiming for "perfect" English, go ahead and write "whom" in
front of the word "you.")
Thanks everyone! So, I guess my sentence is too formal and is not the way a native speaker would say, right?
