Arrow Do You Agree With This <? or : >

"Do you agree with this: The earth is flat."

(Disregarding the truthfulness of the second sentence...)

Should the first sentence be followed by a colon or a question mark?

    I'd punctuate as follows:

Do you agree with this: "The earth is flat"?

Erica asked, "Do you agree with this: 'The earth is flat'?"

No period after the sentence? The question mark sits outside the quotation marks.

Do you agree with this: "The earth is flat"? A full stop (period) after 'flat' would be logical but, in my opinion, excessive. The question mark is outside the quotation marks because it goes with the question do you agree with this, not with the words inside the quotation marks. I suppose you could put the question mark after this, and follow that with a colon, but I don't.

Erica asked, "Do you agree with this: 'The earth is flat'?" The question mark here goes outside the single quotation marks but inside the double, where, in my opinion, it belongs. Logically there could be a full stop at the very end, but I think that's excesive.
