    Default What does it mean?

During the reading of a novel I came across these sentences:

    - Before leaving, you have to break off your homework.

    - When I head it, I just broke off what I was doing actually.

May "to break off" mean to stop doing...or something?

Yes, it means to stop or interrupt.

I think it is a British expression.

Yes, "to break off" can mean to stop doing something. Please have patience and don't repost the same question.

''Break off' may well be restricted to us offshore Europeans, but Before leaving, you have to break off your homework. is unnatural for me.

When I heard it, I just broke off what I was doing actually is slightly less unnatural.
