    Default until

    Hello my friends
    I hope you are fine.
I want to rewrite this sentence with until so which sentence is correct or sounds better?
‘You have to pay when you leave’
    you don’t ………………………………….
you don’t have to pay until you leave
you don’t have to pay until you don’t leave.

    Thanks for your answer.
you mean the second sentence is completely wrong.

    not a teacher

At least it looks/sounds odd to me and I haven't encountered it yet.
Also it is usually not good style to use double negation in a sentence.

Yes, we normally do not negate the "until" clause.

You don’t have to pay until you leave. This is correct.

You don’t have to pay until you don’t leave. This does not make any sense.
'You don’t have to pay until you have left.' (Afit). This is also wrong. You pay before you leave a shop or restaurant, not when you are outside.

    Pragmatics. Yes! Sorry.
I was not concentrating on the meaning. I was concentrating on the forms only. It goes to show that not only temporal factors influence the choice of tense. We also have to stay in keeping with reality.
