    Default Hold Dialogue

    a) "They held dialogue."
    b) "They held a dialogue."

"Dialogue" is both countable and uncountable. So could a) be as correct as b)?

    LA Times:

"But Abbas made it very clear that he is not going to Gaza to discuss reconciliation or to hold dialogue with Hamas."

LA Times must be wrong with "hold dialogue".

    Yes, it is.

Nobody considers the LA Times to be an unimpeachable exemplar of perfect English.
