I ___________ through that bitter period without your generous help.
A. couldn't have gone B. didn't go C. wouldn't go D. hadn't gone
The given answer is A. But I should think we should say "I couldn't have got/gotten through that bitter period without your generous help." Am I right?
Thank you in advance.
You could use go or get there- go through is like enduring and get through emphasises leaving the period behindyou.
But you do 'get through a bad period'.In fact I'm not sure I agree with the others - and I'd've been happy with your original offerings ('got/gotten'). I think 'Get through' involves more difficulty: "I broke three bits drilling through that wall, but I finally got through." But "This chrome vanadium bit is really good. It'll go through that wall like a knife through butter.'
