    Default a foregone conclusion

    Dear teachers,

Would you be kind enough to give me your considered opinion concerning the interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentences?

Both are feasible possibilities, though far from being forgone conclusion. (F. Dennis, “Letters from Prison”)

Of course she and Prothero parted; that was a foregone conclusion. (U. G. Wells, “The Research Magnificent”)

The jury are considering their verdict. The conclusion is however foregone. (J. Galsworthy, “Another Sheaf”)

    a foregone conclusion = a prejudged issue
