A USA movie director talks about his movie which he thinks is more a political thriller than a political picture. So, given that it focuses more on process than platform, the pic intends to satisfy both Democrat and Republican audiences.

Please, what's the meaning of "it focuses more on process than platform"?

Maybe that the picture is more for the action than for any political idea?

It's more about the actions required to win an election (process) than the ideas put forth to win an election (the platform). A smart director does not want to alienate a good part of his potential audience.

If he makes the hero all about saving the earth from evil oil companies, then the "conservative" potential audience tunes him out. If he makes his hero a big war hero who makes America safe for God and guns and apple pie, then the "liberals" tune out.

If he instead avoids identifying his hero with strong ideas, he can tell the story of the political machinations and maybe entertain a broader audience.
