question present perfect or past
I sometimes have to translate from Spanish into English news articles, and I have a doubt on the tense use. Present simple or past: example
The company announced the launch of a new car model
Or
The company has announced the launch of a new car model
I would really appreciate any advice
Thank you

Re: question present perfect or past
Hello Miriam
If it is news (i.e. new news), you can use the present perfect. It gives a note of immediacy:
1. Ford has released details of its new family car, the Model T.
If you're specifying a time, though, you would need the simple past:
2. Last night Ford responded to fresh allegations that its new family car, the Model T, was in fact a retread of an earlier model dating from 1908.
Bye
