He often goes there on sunday

Hello everyone,
Would you please tell me if this sentence can be right or not?
( He often goes there on sunday )
I read it in one of the grammer books and I asked my teachers about it,all of them said it should be sundays not sunday!So is this sentence right or we should add (s) to it?

It's right- in fact, I don't like the use of the plural with the word 'often' here.

I'm not saying it's wrong, but the use of the adverb presupposes the repetition, so the plural doesn't seem necessary to me.

In my opinion, it would be better to write it as, "He often goes there on a Sunday." or "He often goes there on Sundays."

Well thanks, now about the meaning.Does it going to chage the meaning or not?I mean these two sentences are the same?

Here is what the Michael Swan says in his book “Practical English Usage—Second Edition” page 81.

I’ll ring you on Tuesday.
My birthday’s on March 21st.
They’re having a party on Christmas Day.
In an informal style we sometimes leave out on. This is especially common in American English.
I’m seeing her Sunday morning.
Note the use of plurals (Sundays, Mondays etc) when we talk about repeated actions.
We usually go and see Granny on Sundays.

And I also did a quick surfing on the Internet. It seems that the number of people using “ …often …on Sunday” (11,000) is quite close to the number of people using “… often … on Sundays” (12,000), but the number of people using “… often …on a Sunday” (502) is much less than the other two numbers.

2)He often goes there on Sundays= He may go on other days of the week, but it is usually on Sundays

Now would you please tell me whether you accept this sentence ( He often goes there on sunday )from a grammer book or not?
According to what you said I guess the meaning of this sentence is close to the one you mentioned.( He often goes there on a Sunday. = He may go there on a Monday or a Tuesday or a.., but it is usually on a Sunday )
