good terms

Dear teachers,

Would you please help me understanding the bold phrase below:

"What do you think a jeweller would tell the village chief? Wouldn’t it be better to accept and to negotiate good terms?"

The context is the speaker tell another girl that her parents have planned to give her as a bride to the village chief.

To negotiate a good deal/arrangement. Terms are the conditions of a contract, deal, arrangement, etc.
