Default usage of the word "reach"

Is the usage of the word "reach" correct in the following sentence?

The monster rescued the people, carried them on his back and reached them to the shore."

    Thankyou.

No. You need carried/took/brought/ them to the shore.

    REMINDER: NOT A TEACHER

    (1) I would most respectfully suggest:

The monster rescued the people, carried them on his back, and reached the

shore (with them). / The monster rescued the people, carried them on his back, and

brought/delivered/ transported them to the shore.

I was under the impression that this could be an American English usage. However this seems to be not the case!
