Usage of "Postering"

Hi, I'm researching for a case study problem for my business law course. In coming up with my answers, I'm hesitant on using the word "postering" to refer to the act of putting up posters or affixing posters on surfaces.

I read articles online that used this word, and I instinctively know what "postering" means without looking up for its definition. However, I later found out that "postering" is not a word in the dictionary.

Please advise me on the proper English word for "postering".

Do you mean putting up posters without permission? We call that flyposting (or fly-posting) in British English- I don't know whether the word is used in American or Canadian English, though.

There are a few examples of postering here, too.

If I were you I'd avoid it unless it becomes more common.

I've always called it billposting, which can be found in dictionaries.

Although not heard very often, I would tend to think of "postering" as simply the act of putting up a poster, including those advertising posters which are perfectly legal.

Flyposting (to me) is illegally sticking posters and flyers on lampposts and noticeboards etc.

Bill posting (again to me) would be the more old-fashioned word for putting up any kind of poster (advertising or otherwise).

That phrase led to my favourite piece of graffiti, given that at one time being caught putting up those little advertising flyers (posting bills) would result in prosecution:

Graffiti under it: Bill Posters Is Innocent
