Default to cause - to generate - to produce

    - The crisis sparked off a bitter civil war.
    - The new airport brought about lots of changes on that island.

Which is the most suitable verb (among "to cause - to produce - to generate") which can be substituted to the two in bold? Might they all be correct?

I wouldn't classify any of your alternative terms as incorrect. Rather, I have stated my preferences.
