Default their own twist on a situation

What is this twist? unexpected change or something?

ex)Mainstream media aren't necessarily lying, but that doesn't mean they can be trusted because it appears they conveniently leave out information or change facts. Even standard news articles contain pieces of biased interpretations of the facts. It is also interesting to see how different the same event can appear depending on the reporting since most seem to insert their own twist on a situation....

]twist, slant, angle - point of view, way of looking at things, possibly even with a suggestion of distortion of the facts.

The twist or spin on a situation is to take the facts that best support your position and emphasize them while continuing to tell the story you want to tell.

For example, a new report comes out about unemployment. The party in power sends its spokesman out to talk about how the President's policies have strengthened our position and prevented a bad situation from becoming even worse. The other party reacts to the same unemployment report by stating how the Presidents policies aren't working at all and we need new leadership and ideas to improve the situation.
