In the EE dictionary, "composure"mean "steadiness of mind under stress" and "calm" as noun mean"steadiness of mind under stress", "wind moving at less than 1 knot; 0 on the Beaufort scale"
I don't know how to use these words.
Please tell me.
Taking the nautical meaning of 'calm' first, it means that there is no wind. This used to be a serious problem in the days before motors.
As a mental state, 'composure' (noun) and 'calm' (adjective) can mean similar things, as in
"He managed to retain his composure, despite the increasing stress"
"He manage to remain calm, despite the increasing stress"
To me, the first requires a bit more effort from the person involved.
Also, it is possible to use calm as a verb, as in
"The mother managed to calm the child after his nightmare"
Thank you very much. I understand.![]()
