    Arrow Drain Out

    Suppose a barrel filled water has a valve.
    "I opened the valve to drain the water."
    "I opened the valve to drain out the water."

    How are "drain" and "drain out" different?

    They mean the same thing. The "out" is not wrong, but not necessary either.
