Hi,
Roberto Mancini has moved to defend his managerial record in the Champions League, insisting that the competition’s unpredictability should inspire Manchester City to believe they can win the tournament at the first attempt.
I have two questions.
1.
Does "has moved to" mean "has paid attention to"?
2.
Do "at the first attempt" mean "at the first try"?
Thanks a lot
1. No. '. . .has moved to defend his record' means '. . .has strongly defended his record. . .'
2. Yes.
As your two questions are about Roberto Mancini, that would have been a better thread title.
Rover
so move here means "progress"?
Thanks a lot
It means he has taken steps to point out his past achievements, probably in an interview or a newspaper article.

Thanks a lot, Rover.
I found 21 definitions of the word "move" in the form of verb, and which one is suitable here? Is definition 10?
In which dictionary are we to look for definition #10?
