Is this a caption for Figure 4? If so, I would start with Figure 4. Could you give us a bit more information about what is shown? Shows how to tell sounds strange- does it really show how to tell, or do it show?

Figure 4 must be a graph or chart, whose data was obtained by Equation 1.
