    Default 'is' vs 'will be'

    Dear teachers

Which one of these sentences is OK?

I would like to know when the journal is out.
I would like to know when the journal will be out.

    By 'out' I mean published.

    Thanks

They're both OK but I prefer the second. I would also suggest:

I'd like to know when the journal is coming out.
I'd like to know when the journal is due out.

Without further context, your first sentence could be enquiring when, i.e. on what day of the month, the journal regularly appears.
