a SGT or an SGT?

Hello,

I'm in the middle of a conflict between to teachers and translators because they do not agree if we should use "a" or "an" in this phrase:

"a/an SGT company"

Some say that there are phonetic rules, like "ss" vs "ess", others say that there are exceptions due to the initials, I'm feeling lost.

An is correct, as S sounds like ess when spoken, and an precedes a vowel sound.
