    Default long ball

    Hi,

A long ball from Adam Matthews, introduced four minutes earlier following an injury to Darcy Blake, beat the offside trap and freed Bale down the right flank.

    1.
What does the "long ball" mean? Does it mean "a long pass"?

    2.
Does the introduce mean "happen, occur"?

    3.
What does "free Bale down the right flank"?

    Thanks a lot

A better title would have been A long ball from Adam Matthews. You give your threads in the WR forum longer titles than this.

    1.
What does the "long ball" mean? Does it mean "a long pass"? Yes - a kick from defence going a long way upfield.

    2.
Does introduced mean "happen, occur"? No. Adams had come on as a substitute after Blake's injury.

    3.
What does "free Bale down the right flank"? Bale got the ball and had space to run with it down the right wing.

    Thanks a lot
