"However small, the house is well designed and beautifully decorated".
Is ' however' used right in the sentence above?(in my opinion it seems all correct and easily understood if spoken, but my teacher said that it should have been better if I had used( in my English test paper) 'thought').Could someone enlighten me on this matter?
In your sense, 'however small' means 'it does not matter how small it is/may be'. This is a completely different sentence from these two, which have very similar meanings to each other:
Although my house is small, it is well designed and beautifully decorated.
My house is small; however, it is well designed and beautifully decorated.
The first of these is fine as: Though small, my house is well designed and beautifully decorated.
But in the end , if I meant that 'however small it is' is the same as 'regardless of the size of the house' it could be right?
