(2) The volcanic eruption is the worst in many years

Which of the above two sentences is correct?

Re-read the first sentence in post #1 again.

@bowiefrisch. I use only 'for', but 'in' is widely used. Both are fine.

(1) I believe that most Americans prefer "in."

(2) I remember how astonished I was when I first read something like this on a

British news website:

"This is the first time for three years that The Times has been banned in [a certain

country]."

(3) If you are addressing an American audience, I most respectfully suggest that you

use "in."
